2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Gas Mileage

how fuel efficient is the mitsubishi outlander.jpgThe 2023 Outlander achieves 31 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg on city roads in its standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) version is available, which achieves 30 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg in the city. These figures are excellent for the compact crossover class, which includes several vehicles with fuel economy ratings closer to 20 mpg.

Even if you opt for the added stability AWD provides, you'll still get a decent amount of mileage for an SUV. The FWD Outlander may do just fine if you'll be using your crossover for getting around town, but you may prefer the AWD version if you regularly take weekend trips away or want some added performance to cope with the winter weather.

The Outlander underwent a full redesign for the 2022 model year, so there's not much difference in fuel efficiency between the 2023 and 2022 models. There was no gas-powered Outlander available in 2021 since Mitsubishi only sold the plug-in hybrid version during that model year. The 2020 Outlanders had a slightly lower-powered gas engine than the current setup. This is reflected in the slightly lower highway fuel economy of 29 mpg in AWD and 30 mpg in FWD.

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Engine and Performance

The 2023 Outlander's excellent gas mileage is largely thanks to its efficient engine: a 2.5-liter unit that puts out 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. That's enough power for traveling around town and getting up to speed on the highway without being overly excessive. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission, which helps to manage the powertrain effectively.

Despite the Outlander's fuel-efficient powertrain, you'll still have enough performance under the hood to tow a modest load at the rear. If you have a small camper or boat, you should be able to pull it out of town with the 2023 Outlander's 2,000-pound towing capacity. If you don't require all the seats for passengers in the cabin, you can fold them down to create more space for transporting even more gear. With both rear rows folded flat, you have space for 79 cubic feet of cargo, which is more than many other compact SUVs.

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Trim Options

For 2023, you can choose from five trims for the Outlander: ES, SE, Black Edition, SEL, and SEL Black Edition. These options provide you with the flexibility of choosing a standard setup if you require a three-row SUV on a modest budget or a more luxurious trim for extra comfort.

The base ES trim has an MSRP of just under $28,000. It features cloth upholstery, an 8-inch infotainment display, a six-speaker stereo, and smartphone compatibility. Coming in at just over $30k, the SE trim adds upscale touches such as synthetic leather and suede upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats. The Tech upgrade package lets you add a sunroof and a high-performance 10-speaker stereo.

The Black Edition stands out above the other trims with its stylistic changes, including black wheels and exterior accents. If you opt for the SEL trim, you get genuine leather seats, power adjustments in the front row, heated second-row seats, and memory settings for the driver's seat. There is also a Premium upgrade package available, which includes a head-up display and a 10-speaker sound system. The SEL Black Edition is the top trim, which features a heated steering wheel and a sunroof.

Tips To Improve Your Outlander's Fuel Efficiency

While the Outlander beats most of its competitors in the fuel-efficiency class, there are some steps you can take to make its gas mileage even better. First, try setting off earlier each morning so you miss the rush hour. If you get caught in a lot of stop-and-go traffic, you'll use up more fuel than if you drive at a steady speed throughout your journey. Another helpful tip is to try and keep your speed to around 65 mph or below. Anything faster will require more fuel to power your Outlander, reducing its fuel economy slightly.

You can also make some changes inside your cabin to get the most out of the Outlander's efficient engine. Regularly check your cargo area to ensure that you're only carrying things you really need. Extra weight from bags and other items puts additional strain on the engine, which in turn needs more fuel to power your crossover.

Finally, sticking to a strict maintenance regime is crucial if you want to have the best possible fuel economy. Getting your oil changed on time will help your engine's parts to run smoothly and avoid any unnecessary friction. Further, rotating your tires will guard against uneven treadwear, which can slow your progress on roads and when navigating corners.

In addition, routine inspections of your engine's hoses and other components will help ensure everything is in good working order. Our service technicians at our Mitsubishi-certified service center will be delighted to help you with these maintenance tasks and much more.
