Fear Forest is a horrifyingly good time right near town. This massive haunted experience includes four different attractions guaranteed to make your skin crawl. The Insane-A-Tarium takes a mental institution theme to its most extreme limits with horrifying "treatments" filled with blood, guts, and gore. Psycho Path is an outdoor trail that allows you to meet the escaped convicts in person. The Haunted Hayride offers a ride through jaw-dropping effects and animatronics, with a few actors left over to torture you, while the Forbidden Cornfield offers a quick (and horrifying) walk through a maze of your worst nightmares.
Altogether, this makes 68 acres of scream-inducing fun just outside of Youngstown. Dates and times haven't been released for the 2022 season yet, but previous years have gotten the horror going near the end of September. Ticket options include a hayride-only entrance for $12 and a four-attraction combo for $30. Bringing young children isn't recommended, but if you do, be sure to have adult supervision present. Besides, you might not want to go through this local nightmare alone.
Schenley Haunt
Located right in Youngstown, the Schenley Haunt is a wonderful way to spend the dying days of your Halloween season. Established in 2017, this family-run attraction offers a front yard haunted house during the last week of October each year. Besides scares and screams, this kid-friendly attraction also provides candy for the littlest trick-or-treaters and photo opportunities to get your perfect shot.
Community-run and as local as can be, this is a great place to bring your loved ones and meet up with some neighbors, all while dressed to the nines in your Halloween best. It's also a great (and free) option if you'd like to save some money for next year's big scares. Haunted Hill View Manor
Sometimes you want your horrors to be a bit more historical. If that's the case, head just over the Pennsylvania line to Haunted Hill View Manor in New Castle. A former nursing home and farm built in 1926, this spot offers over 80,000 square feet of real-life ghost action.
You can stop by for a public paranormal investigation, a private encounter, or a spine-chilling day tour of the facility. With either investigation option, you or your group can enjoy a tour of the building and then break off to do your own investigating. If you'd rather just explore, though, the day tour offer you a chance to learn more about the history of the facility and then spend the rest of your time wandering its halls.
During the Halloween season, this attraction gets even scarier with Scare Manor, a pop-up haunted house that runs from late September until the end of October. During this time, you can try your best not to freak out in the attraction's haunted house, corn maze, and guided night tours. Prices vary based on your desired experience and the time you'd like to spend between these haunted walls. No matter how you choose to enjoy this manor, though, you won't forget this Halloween event.
Fortress of Fear ScreamPark
Fortress of Fear ScreamPark is a fully immersive Halloween extravaganza. This park has everything you need to enjoy a terrifyingly good time. Enjoy haunted happenings like a zombie outbreak shooting game and a Fear Fair experience guaranteed to leave you breathless. Check out the haunted fair you've always dreamed of, with rides, games, concessions, novelties, and plenty of evil-doers. Carnival classics get a new twist with horrifying takes on old favorites like go-karts, bumper cars, and a tilt-a-whirl.
You can customize your ideal experience with individual entrance tickets for $20 and a complete Fear Pass, which offers access to all the carnival rides you could imagine, for $30. There are also individual options if you'd like to check out some attractions on their own. The choice is up to you. Opening night for this twisted fair and haunted house takes place on Sept. 23, and from there the attraction is open Friday and Saturday nights through October. Special events include college ID discount nights on Fridays and ladies' night giveaways to really get you in the haunted mood.

If you'd like to spend your evenings grabbing a quick drink between haunts, you might enjoy your time at Eerie Acres Farm. This Butler, Pennsylvania experience includes a horrifying outdoor haunted corn maze, an indoor haunted house, and all sorts of other activities to keep you entertained. Enjoy a collection of rotating food trucks along with the farm's regular concession stand. There's also a beer garden open every Saturday night to pour locally brewed beers. If that's not enough, there's even a bonfire for you and your loved ones to sit around and whisper ghost stories in the seasonal cold.
Tickets cost $20 for general admission to this attraction, with $35 giving you fast pass admittance to all the haunts. This spot opens on the weekend of Sept. 30 and stays open on Fridays and Saturdays through October. Kids are always welcome, but it may be best for them to simply enjoy the seasonal vibes around the campfire rather than attempting the haunts.
